They feed on small fl0oating organisms that are suspended in the water column (normally at night). This is exactly why they are not good for new aquariums, there are not enough food available for them to survive on! So give them enough food, no light (algae might irritate them), water flow (to bring food) and they would brighten up those dark caves or corners in your aquarium.
